LuxLife was "high-end, luxury lifestyle" site that was an online magazine for a local Atlanta publisher. I worked with her hand-in-hand to design her logo, brand identity, and create a visually stunning, easy-to-manage CMS web site that reflected her personal aesthetic.
The website design was meant to mimic a print publication ... And one of my client's early requests was to create a website that scrolled horizontally or actually incorporated some kind of page flip animation. We didn't incorporate either idea because one was simply a usability nightmare and the other, well, the technology didn't exist. The site utilized the technology provided by a highly customizable CMS, Expression Engine, and I spent a lot of time helping my client understand the benefits to vertical scrolling and a good old blog format for presenting content.
I worked with my developer to build different layouts into each content section to help break up the visual flow of the articles. We also built in some user-activated touches including, light-shows (which were all the rage at the time) and overlays on the heart images in a couple sections. My goal was to keep the content clean, the design cohesive, and information easy to find within a few clicks. We also built in the ability to include paid advertisements in the right column as well as within the content on article pages.
