Vector Media enlisted my help to design the visual interface and improve the user experience for a large intranet project they were working for one of their biggest clients: global investments giant, Cohen and Steers. Development was well under way by the time I was handed the low-fi wireframes to start assessing the project. My role was twofold: Skin the product to "feel" like it was part of the C&S family, but make it different enough that it wouldn't be confused with their public-facing website and help improve the experience for logged in users.
I went through three rounds of mid-fy mockups to gauge the design and determine an overall direction, which included restructuring the navigation to organize administrative and activity components.
For the intranet, I used the same colors, fonts, and general look and feel of the client-facing site which is a very conservative flat-graphic aesthetic on dark grey but switched the management portion of the intranet to a light background for readability and to reduce eye fatigue. I also added a touch of flare with color, icons, and minimal use of shading to set apart buttons.
